Volunteers needed: the Parish of Central Saanich will be having a float in the upcoming Sidney Sparkles Parade on Sunday December 3 at 5:00 pm.

Update December 1, from Rachel:

We are entry #33 and we will be gathering on Resthaven Dr. in the block between Henry Ave and Brethour Ave.  I'm hoping to arrive earlier than the listed marshaling time - I want to start decorating the truck at about 3:00 so we still have some daylight to work in.  Anyone who has lights to loan but can't make it to Sidney for 3:00 could bring them to either church on Sunday morning and I can pick them up on my way to the Parade.

The Parade itself starts at 5:00 sharp.  The end of the parade route is by the Anacortes Ferry, and we will be pulling into the Iroquois Park parking lot to strip the decorations.  That places any walking or riding volunteers in a good location to get a great seat for the Lighted Sailpast, which starts right after the parade is finished. The Parade route and marshalling area are attached below.

A big Thank You to:

  • Don Mann Excavating who will again be providing us a truck and driver, and

  • Navy League Cadet Corps #122 Admiral Martin cadets will also be volunteering with us handing out the colouring books

Rachel.

The parade route is the same easy walk as for the Sidney Days parade on July 1 - from Thriftys down Beacon, right on 2nd St to Ocean Ave.

We are looking for help in the following ways:

  • Donations of Christmas lights (preferably LED, outdoor type) for decorating the truck - we will need at least 15-20 long strings that plug end-to-end, and we're not fussy on colour.  All will be labeled for return.
  • Donation of a large size Eliminator (a device that can run the lights off the truck battery).  Preferably on with multiple outlets.
  • Volunteers from both churches to meet in Sidney at about 3:00 on the afternoon of December 3 to decorate the truck.
  • Volunteers from both churches to walk with us in the Parade, hand out customized Christmas colouring books to all the kids and sing Christmas carols.
  • Sunday School kids (or visiting grandkids, nieces or nephews) to dress in Pageant costumes and be a Live Nativity on the truck.

If you can help in any way, please contact Rachel Moss, or call 778-426-3737.
