Are You Interested in First Nations and Metis History and Culture?

On Monday, July 18th at 7:00pm, the Parish of Central Saanich is offering a unique educational opportunity for parishioners and members of the community, as part of our ongoing commitment to the "Calls to Action" from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada.  This will be the third session. You are invited (and encouraged) to bring a friend along.

A Special Note from Fern & Mark:

As a result of the questions that were asked in last week's Monday evening Indigenous education series, we have asked our daughter, Rachel Perkins, to come in as a guest speaker this Monday evening at 7 pm. Rachel works for the Province in the Small Business Branch. Her area of expertise is Aboriginal Enterpreneurship and Economic Development. Her focus is on Aboriginal youth. Over the last few years she has worked closely with Aboriginal communities and organizations to understand and navigate the economic development constraints of the Indian Act and opportunities that exist under the New Relationship Treaties.

It promises to be an informative and eye opening session that answers many ot the questions that arose last week.

Fern and Mark Perkins travel to schools teaching children about the unique Indigeneous Peoples (First Nations and Metis) history and culture. This is provided through the Aboriginal Education Enhancement agreement with the BC Ministry of Education.

Fern and Mark, also from St Mary’s church, have recently offered this program to our Parish of Central Saanich. They share their experiences in the form of a story, dress in regalia, and bring along interesting and authentic historic pieces.

The third session takes place in the St Stephen’s boardroom on Monday July 18th at 7pm. We hope to see you there and hope that you will bring along a friend too.
