Fern Perkins invites you to a Ross Bay Cemetery in Fort Victoria Tour at 10 am on Saturday, May 11th. Any donations will support the Old Cemeteries Society.
Fern Perkins, the 3x granddaughter of Anishinaabé woman, Isabella Mainville and Charles Ross, Scottish Fur trader, parents of first Métis family in Fort Victoria will guide the tour. She will be assisted by her Métis husband, Mark , 3 x grandson of Peter Skene Ogden (Ogden Point). All are welcome. Métis are people of mixed European fur trade and Indigenous ancestry, and one of the three recognized First Peoples in Canada.
Sunday’s tour leaders, Fern & Mark Perkins, will demystify confusion about the terms Aboriginal, Indigenous, First Nations, Métis and Inuit. Fern will visit graves of many Métis buried at RBC and explain their historical importance to the city and the country. There will be a faith focus with Hebrews 12:1

It is not just the Métis tour described in the Ross Bay Cemetery schedule online,
because it will be based on scripture for our church community.
It is also the third presentation in the series of Indigenous Reconciliation presentations that Fern & Mark have done for the Central Saanich Church Community.
Meet at the corner of Dallas Rd and Memorial Crescent by the public washrooms. Parking is free along Memorial and Dallas. Everyone is welcome, so please feel free to bring a friend or a young person who has an interest. Fern says that they do these tours for school ages as well.
The tour will focus on the local Indigenous peoples who are buried at Ross Bay Cemetery, including the Métis people who were the founders and builders of Fort Victoria.
